Next Thursday, 19th January, we are delighted to announce that we will be returning to our Woodland School. The Nursery and Pre-Prep classes who attend these sessions follow the Forest School educational approach to outdoor play and learning. Outlined below is the Forest School Association’s summary of their approach:
What is Forest School?
Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.
Forest School is a specialised learning approach that sits within and compliments the wider context of outdoor and woodland education.
At Forest School all participants are viewed as:
This learner-centred approach interweaves with ever-changing moods and marvels the potential and challenges of the natural world through the seasons to fill every Forest School session and programme with discovery and difference. Yet each programme does also share a common set of principles, aimed at ensuring that all learners experience the cumulative and lasting benefits that quality Forest School offers.
Principles of Forest School
There is no such thing as ‘bad weather’ as far as Forest School is concerned, problems only occur when participants are dressed inappropriately for the weather, so please ensure your child has appropriate clothing with them to cope with whatever weather is forecast. A separate letter to Pre-Prep & Nursery parents, has been sent out detailing the dates & classes of all the sessions this term but, if any parents have any further questions relating to our Woodland School then Mrs Filer will be delighted to talk to them about it. We look forward to some great Woodland School sessions during this term!
