Caterham School

The Journey

It is about 20 – 30 minutes from Banstead by car, not difficult but favours people who live on the Coulsdon side of us.  A minibus stops outside our school every day and picks up.  An old boy told me that it is pretty straight forward but mum has to pick him up if he stays beyond 6pm, which he does sometimes.  Caterham Station is at the end of the line and is then a 10 minute walk.

The Head

Ceri Jones (pronounced Kerry) arrived last year from Tonbridge.  A really nice guy with lots of exciting ideas for the future.  A family man. Very enthusiastic.  Took over from Julian Thomas who went to Wellington.

Size of School

Co-Educational.  About 900 including the Prep and Pre-Prep, has 155 borders.

Special Needs

Limited but a number of EAL students.

The School is at the end of a beautiful valley.  All the facilities are there – science, drama, art, sports hall, swimming pool, performing arts.  Built on the side of a hill the classrooms are good and have all the modern teaching aids.  Lots of pitches everywhere.  Rugby, hockey, cricket (did not see football).

Entry Requirements

Looking for good Level 5 in English and Maths.

Overall Impression

Lovely school, bit of a drive, but worth it.
