Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Priory Preparatory School is well resourced in this area of growing importance. We have made a significant investment in information technology.

We have a well equipped computer suite and with a computer in each classroom which links staff and boys to access the Internet quickly and efficiently. Most classes have an interactive whiteboard.

Boys learn to use word-processing packages, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and the Internet - which is carefully monitored by filters. They learn how to edit photographs and how to include them in projects that they are doing in various different curriculum areas. For example, the Form 8 Geography project is a major piece of word-processed work and brings together many of the skills that the boys learn as they progress through the school. Boys in the Nursery will use interactive whiteboards to learn how to read and write and find out about the world.

In Science, extensive use is made of the Internet, photos, videos and PowerPoint presentations. Microsoft Excel is used for tabulating experimental results and drawing graphs. Data logging is a relatively new and useful venture for us in this department. Other subject departments also make extensive use of the opportunity to use ICT in their classes.

Each Priory Preparatory School boy has his own e-mail address and his own dedicated files and folders within which to work. Boys are made aware, at a suitable age, of their responsibilities and the possible dangers of using the Internet. We are very aware that ICT is continually changing and that children of the future will need strong ICT skills; our programmes of learning reflects this.
